Internet Login error: "IP mismatch", login loop

Issue

You are returned to the Internet Login page with the error message "IP mismatch."

Resolution

There are a number of issues that can cause this. If your IP address has changed since the last time you logged in, and your login has not timed out, you can get this error. Try logging in again.

Clear your Web browser's cache and cookies if the problem persists. You may also try exiting (quitting) your browser and relaunching it, or try using a different browser (e.g., Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera).

If you are connecting to the Internet from a business or college outside the University of Minnesota, you can also have your network administrator verify that the Web site or application you are trying to connect to (e.g., webvista.umn.edu, www.myu.umn.edu) is in the same "NAT pool" as www.umn.edu, our Internet Login server. Essentially, the application and Internet Login need to see the same source IP address for your computer's connection.

As a work-around, you may open a VPN connection and try logging in to your Web site or application again. The VPN connection requires our VPN software to be installed on your computer.
