Faculty and Staff: How do I request an Internet ID change?

Issue

Your Internet ID is a unique ID assigned to you by the University. It consists of a combination of letters from your last name followed by a series of numbers.

Resolution

Requests by faculty and staff to change your Internet ID are usually granted; doing so may impact your ability to access systems

Before you request that your U of M Internet ID (also known as username or x.500 ID) be changed to one selected by you, consider the impact it may have on your ability to access central and non-central systems by reviewing What are the effects of changing my Internet ID? Knowledge Base article.

Choosing a new Internet ID

Your new Internet ID can be the first five letters of your last name followed by a 3-digit number selected by our system, or you can select any 3- to 8-letter ID that resembles your name or initials.

Contact the Accounts Office

If you have any additional questions, please call the Accounts Office at 612-626-8366 or send a message to accounts@umn.edu.  If you are ready to process the Internet ID change, you will need to call the accounts office as requests can not be processed via e-mail.

Requests for Internet ID change are processed by Central Accounts Administration. You will be required to refrain from logging into your e-mail or any other service that uses the University's Central Authentication Hub (CAH) for one hour while the Internet ID change is being processed.
